Are you furiously gearing up to meet Malaysia’s e-invoicing implementation? Well, you’re not alone in this challenge!
One of the problems that many businesses face, is the need to issue einvoice for customers who are on a regular subscription. In order to issue the einvoice, the seller needs to know the Tax Identification Number (TIN) of the customer.
But, to get the TIN, the customer needs to give you either their (i) MyKad number, (ii) Passport number, or (iii) Business registration number (SSM).
Once you have that, Malaysia’s Inland Revenue (LHDN) has a robust API where you can retrieve the tax ID numbers.
However, there’s a catch—the API only allows you to execute one search at a time.
Searching for TINs can be tedious and time-consuming, especially when you have a large database of clients. Trying to input each record one-by-one is impractical and can lead to delays in preparing your internal database for e-invoicing.
So, what do you do when you need to run a search repeatedly? You build an automation with N8N!
With my N8N workflow, you can conduct batch searches to acquire TINs for multiple SSM or NRIC numbers simultaneously. This will save you enormous amounts of time, allowing you to focus on what really matters: your business!
What you’ll need to run this workflow
– Client ID and Client Secret: Get these credentials from the myhasil.gov.my website to enable API access to LHDN system
– Google Sheet: Prepare a Google Sheet containing the list of SSM and NRIC numbers for which you are seeking TINs.
Then, load this workflow into your N8N instance. If you don’t have one, sign up for N8N cloud here.
This workflow is particularly useful now that e-invoicing has been rescheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026, for businesses with income above MYR 1 million. Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare!
By leveraging this N8N workflow, you not only ensure compliance with the upcoming regulations but also enhance the efficiency of your operations.
